Dr. Joel Lerner is board certified in Foot and Ankle surgery. He is a member of the American Board of Podiatric Surgeons, New Jersey Podiatric Medical Society and a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is a longstanding member of the American Diabetes Association. Dr Lerner is on staff at Overlook Hospital, Bayonne Medical Center, Hoboken University Hospital and the Center for Ambulatory Surgery in Mountainside, NJ. Dr. Lerner has participated in numerous multi-center clinical trials for major pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Joel Lerner attended Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, and graduated from Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine. He performed his post graduate training at The Cambridge Hospital ( Harvard Medical School), in foot and ankle surgery. He then moved back to NJ to join his brother Dr. Michael Lerner in practice to begin Foot and Ankle Physicians.
Dr. Lerner is a Diplomat, American Board of Podiatric Surgery Fellows of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr.Lerner practices from the Union and Bayonne, New Jersey offices.
Dr. Michael Lerner graduated from Rutgers University in 1979 where he received his bachelors degree in biological sciences. He attended the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine and graduated in 1983 receiving his doctor of podiatric medicine degree cum laude. He completed his residency training in podiatric surgery at Peninsula Hospital Center in Far Rockaway, New York.
Dr. Lerner has participated in numerous clinical research trials sponsored by pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the field of diabetic foot ulcerations and specializes in the treatment of diabetic foot complications. He is also board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a member of the American Podiatric Medical Society.

Dr. Stephen Longobardi is a Board Certified foot and ankle surgeon. He is a member of the American Board of Podiatric Surgeons, New Jersey Podiatric Medical Society, and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. Longobardi is on staff at St. Barnabas Hospital, Hoboken University Hospital, Overlook
Hospital, and the Center for Ambulatory Surgery in Mountainside, New Jersey. Dr. Longobardi serves on the Credentialing Board and is on the Board of Directors at the Center for Ambulatory Surgery in Mountainside.
Dr. Longobardi is the former Podiatric Surgical Residency Director at Union Hospital and remains active in
podiatric surgical/medical education.
Dr. Longobardi’s medical interests include elective and nonelective foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine,
and wound care. Dr. Longobardi is also interested in research and clinical studies. Selected examples of
Dr. Longobardi’s recent publications in peer reviewed academic medical journals include: Invasive Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma Presenting as a Nonhealing Radiation Wound; a Case Report, Healing Diabetic Foot Ulcers Using Cortical Bone Fenestration and Cell Therapy, and Considerations in Local Care of Diabetic Lower Extremity Ulcers.
Dr. Longobardi graduated from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He subsequently pursued postgraduate
studies at Rutgers University before attending the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Longobardi performed a one year orthopedic residency at the East Orange Veterans Administration Hospital. From there, he went on to complete a two year residency concentrating in foot and ankle surgery at Union Hospital/St.Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey. Dr. Longobardi also holds a Masters in Business Administration Degree.
Dr. Brian Sullivan is double Board certified in both Foot/Ankle Surgery, as well as Rearfoot Reconstructive
Surgery. His professional affiliations include the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, the American Podiatric Medical Association and the New Jersey Podiatric Medical Society. He is also a Fellow of The American College
of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is an active Staff member at Hoboken University Medical Center, St. Barnabas Medical Center, Overlook Hospital and the Center for Ambulatory Surgery in Mountainside.
Dr. Sullivan currently serves as the Assistant Residency Director for Hoboken University Medical Center’s
Podiatric Surgical Residency Program. He remains active in Podiatric Resident Education at St. Barnabas
Medical Center and Overlook Hospital as well. Dr. Sullivan also serves on the credentialing committee of
the Center for Ambulatory Surgery.
Dr. Jonathan Sorkin has practiced in Bayonne and Jersey City since 1985. He received his undergraduate bachelors of science degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and was graduated with
honors Cum Laude from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in 1984. His postgraduate residency
training was completed at Gouverneur Hospital, part of the City of New York Health and Hospital Corporation.
During this time, he was also appointed assistant clinical instructor at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dr. Sorkin is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and currently a Fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine. His professional affiliations include memberships to the American Podiatric Medical Association and the New Jersey Podiatric Medical Society. Dr. Sorkin has staff privileges at Hoboken University Medical Center. He enjoys treating patients of any age through all aspects of podiatric medicine, surgery, and general care.
Dr. Craig Costa obtained his undergraduate degree from Dickinson College located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
After graduation he attended the New York College of Podiatric Medicine for his doctorate. Upon Graduation
Dr. Costa performed a 3 year residency focused in rearfoot and ankle reconstruction and trauma at Hoboken University Medical Center in Hoboken, NJ.
Dr. Costa is an Associate of American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons as well as a member of PI Delta a National Podiatry Service Organization. His medical interest include reconstructive foot and ankle procedures
such as Total ankle replacement and trauma, sports medicine, and elective forefoot and rear foot procedures.
Dr. Costa’s other professional affiliations include American Board of Podiatric Surgeons and The American Podiatric Medical Association.
